Aug 7, 2010 - 02:08:20When I read your first question above, I thought you meant teaching high school vocational classes. For this, most states have developed an alternative path to teacher certification with a shortened college program of classes in education. To find out what your state does, search the state department of education web site.
As for a technical or vocational school, they may not require any particular certification. It would be more about experience in both your field of specialty and teaching something, though not necessarily the same subject. Try to think about how you could spin something on your resume as teaching experience. Have you trained any other mechanics in your shop on a new procedure? Ever teach Sunday School? Shown someone how to drive a manual transmission? Coached youth sports team? Helped out in an adult literacy program or mentored a high school student interested in auto tech?
If nothing comes to mind, you might start looking for volunteer opportunities in some area that would fill this gap.
I would also contact the Human Resources departments of Lincoln Tech and some similar schools and ask this question of them? It’s a small investment of time that could begin a process that gets you where you want to go.
